Laser resurfacing is an effective way to treat a variety of concerns, including sun damage and aging symptoms. Ablative lasers work by vaporizing the outer layers of skin. This process stimulates the skin to repair and remodel with new collagen. Recovery time can take 1-2 weeks, but results are dramatic and lasting. Non-ablative lasers are less invasive. They work by heating up tissue without actually destroying it. There is usually minimal downtime and multiple treatments are required for best results.

Using the top of the line ICON™ workstation, Vital Dermatology NJ offers 3 types of laser resurfacing: 2940 ablative for a one-time treatment with dramatic results, 1540 XD for acne and surgical scars, and 1540 XF for skin texture and stretch marks.

WHAT IS LASER RESURFACING?

Laser skin resurfacing is a skin rejuvenating procedure that uses lasers to improve the skin’s texture and appearance. A laser’s key features, which include its wavelength that is absorbed by precise targets in the skin and the rate at which its light beams are delivered (pulse width), all come into play to renew the skin and to treat specific skin conditions.

The ICON™ laser delivers energy into the skin to target wrinkles, unwanted pigment, scars, and stretch marks, without harming the surrounding skin. As the skin absorbs the laser’s energy, your body’s natural healing response will trigger cell renewal, creating fresh, healthy skin in the treated area.

HOW A DERMATOLOGIST WILL PERFORM THE PROCEDURE

A session typically takes less than 30 minutes. The procedure length will depend on the treatment area’s size. You will be provided with eye shields for protection from the laser. Your dermatologist will also offer the option of numbing cream application to ensure more comfort during the procedure.

During the laser treatment, your dermatologist will guide a handheld device over your treatment area where the laser will be delivering energy into your skin. You may feel gentle pressure or a warm sensation during the procedure. Some describe the experience as similar to the snap of a rubber band, but most patients tolerate the treatment quite well. Post-treatment instructions, such as avoiding sun exposure, will be provided.

LASER RESURFACING QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

A: Those who undergo the ICON™ treatment don’t have to worry about suffering the same side effects they would with more aggressive treatments. Most patients only encounter some minor redness or swelling after their treatment. These side effects may last for a few hours to a few days, but you may return to your normal activities right away as long as you provide the treated areas with sun protection.
A: As your skin produces new collagen, you will notice a gradual reduction in fine lines and wrinkles as well as tighter skin over several months following treatment. ICON™ treatment results can be long-lasting. Many of our patients enjoy their rejuvenated appearance for years. A good skincare regimen that includes sun protection will help prolong your results.
A: The ICON™ laser resurfacing treatment is a minimally-invasive procedure. You will only experience mild pressure as the dermatologist guides the device across your treatment area. Patients have described the sensation as a slight snapping against the skin. Overall, it is a well-tolerated procedure, and pain management options such as numbing cream are discussed with you before your session.
A: Laser resurfacing with the ICON™ laser systems is far less invasive compared to other laser treatments. You should only experience minimal downtime if any at all. Immediately following your procedure, you may have some mild redness and possible swelling which should resolve within 24 to 48 hours, and these side effects should not keep you from your daily schedule.

BOTOX

Frowning, squinting, and smiling leave behind fine lines and wrinkles over time. Neuromodulators can be injected directly with a tiny needle into the muscles responsible and work by reducing crease-causing contractions.

DERMAL FILLERS

As we mature, loss of volume leads to wrinkles, prominent nasolabial folds, thinned lips, exaggerated jowls, and marionette lines. The natural deterioration of underlying bone and soft tissue leaves a hollowed, aged appearance. Fillers injected below the skin surface can correct age-related volume loss.

ULTHERAPY

One effective procedure that may offer an alternative to a facelift for some patients is Ultherapy. This procedure utilizes advanced and highly-studied ultrasound energy to stimulate the body’s production of collagen.
